COMMUNITY SERVICE NEWS

None of these projects will be possible without the support of our membership. So please find it in your hearts to assist the less fortunate and make a donation or volunteer your services to any of these projects.

IT HAS STARTED!!!!

HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE 2011

Boxes should be showing up at garage locations by October 1st and the committee is looking for nonperishable food items that will be donated to the AFL-CIO food bank. All donations will be collected November 10th.

They are also looking for cash donations to the food drive. The committee was informed that the food bank can buy items in bulk at a very discounted price and fill their shelves with items that they have run out of or are running low on. If you are giving a cash donation please see a committee member or mail a check to the Union Hall and note it for the food bank.

Thank you in advance for all of the donations

 Adopt-A-Family

The committee is also looking to take a collection for families in each district of the Local to help them for Christmas. Last years event was a great success in helping a co-worker that was "voluntarily separated from payroll". This year they would like to expand this project and help a family in each district. The order of preference would be for a CWA family in need, another union family or just a family that someone knows. As the committee identifies the families the items that are needed will be posted. As always, cash donations will be accepted.

If you know of a family in need and could benefit this upcoming holiday season please contact the hall.

 Habitat for Humanity

The committee has contacted this organization in an effort for our members to show our support to the community. There are district offices that establishes projects in there area. Offices were in Cecil, Harford, Baltimore, Carroll and Montgomery Counties as well as Baltimore City. As the committee gets information on  projects in an area anyone that has volunteered to help will be notified.

There is another organization associated with Habitat for Humanity and that would be "Brush with Kindness". This organization takes on projects mainly for the elderly and could entail some outside painting, minor repairs or landscaping for these individuals. These are usually 1/2 to 1 day events. As information is received by the committee will contact anyone that has volunteered.

If anyone is interested in volunteering for either project please call the Local and have your name added to the volunteer list. We will keep the list together and if a project comes along we will notify you of the event and see if you are available at that time.
